Diagnosing a Google Penalty
Posted by Matt McWilliams in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on May 28th, 2009
| There is a great thread on the WebmasterWorld forums discussing the ways to diagnose a Google penalty.
Being penalized by Google can be disasterous if you do not discover it and recover quickly. |

Ann Smarty also covers the topic and offers 10 Ways to Diagnose a Google Penalty. It is a great read!
Email Headlines That Actually Get Read
Posted by Matt McWilliams in Affiliate Tips on May 27th, 2009
You send emails. Lots of them. The point is to sell something and the only way to have that happen pretty much is to have them open it in the first place.
Jeremy Reeves writes a guest post on Tricia Lyn’s site entitled “5 Ways to Write Email Headlines that Get Read.” I was honestly surprised at how accurate it is and how much I think this advice can help both newbie and veteran alike.

We need your W-9!
Posted by Matt McWilliams in Legacy News on May 26th, 2009
As you have seen, there are many exciting changes going on at Legacy Learning Systems, particularly in the affiliate program.
This is my second full week and things are really rocking. I cannot wait to share some of the upcoming changes and improvements in the coming weeks!
One of the first things I noticed was that we do not have w-9 forms for many of our affiliates. We must have these in order to pay you, as the IRS requires them for anyone who earns over $600 from us.
If you have not done so already, please fill out a W-9 form (W-8BEN if international) and send it to us as soon as possible. You can find both forms here. The information for sending them to us is on that page as well. We MUST have this form in order to make payments.
I know that you are busy this time of year, so you have over a month to send them in, until the end of June. After July 1, we will not be able to make payments for affiliates that have not sent in their w-9 form. Don’t worry if you forget, you will have plenty of reminders over the next few weeks!
Thanks in advance for your help with this and as always, if you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Click here to get the forms and contact information.

Earlier this week, Gabriel emailed you to introduce me and give you a little background. If, by chance, you did not receive it, you can read it here.
I am so excited to be here and to be working with you. It was an almost 5-month process in my coming here and I know that the future holds some great things for us!
I truly believe in what Legacy is all about. I believe in the culture of the company, the people here, and the products. No one, and I mean no one, has better learning products or service on the market. That is why I am here. That is why I know future is bright indeed.
This year will bring about a lot of positive changes and improvements. Beginning with the addition of additional product lines and continuing with our increasing staff and lack of office space, Legacy is on the move, figuratively and literally.
You will notice some changes already and I am excited to point some additional changes that you may not have noticed yet.
First, we have done a minor redesign on the affiliate section. There are more changes yet to come.
Secondly, you will notice our new affiliate blog here and that we are on Twitter at @LegacyAffiliate. We will be updating it frequently with industry news, marketing tips, company news, and other fun stuff.
Soon, we will be adding a dedicated forum at ABestWeb.com. You will find me there and at the AffiliateTrust.org forum as MattMcWilliams (I got really creative with my username!).
Lastly, I have added links to each product page in the affiliate section. Banners will soon be pointing to each specific page. In the meantime, you can use the following links to link directly to the specific product pages:

Drums - http://www.learnandmaster.com/_id_-10-3-2.html
Ballroom Dancing - http://www.learnandmaster.com/_id_-11-3-4.html
Please feel free to contact me anytime for any reason or drop us a message on Twitter or comment on the blog.
I am here to help you grow your business!

Introduction to Our New Affiliate Manager
Posted by Matt McWilliams in Legacy News on May 19th, 2009
I have been managing our affiliate program here at Legacy Learning Systems for nearly three years, assisting our affiliates in the promotion of our Learn & Master courses. As we’ve grown, it’s become increasingly difficult for me to give our affiliates the time and attention you deserve — a totally unacceptable situation. After all, it is you who are our ambassadors in the marketplace and a huge part of our success.
I am very excited to announce that we now have a full-time affiliate manager as part of our commitment to your success. Matt McWilliams has officially joined us as Affiliate Manager. I am still here at Legacy serving as CEO, so I will be assisting in the transition and happy to help you at any time.
Here’s a bit about Matt. He comes to us from HometownQuotes.com where he built one of the leading affiliate programs in the world. At HometownQuotes, he grew the program over 2000%, helping over 6,000 affiliates along the way.
Matt has been recognized internationally by ABestWeb.com, Affiliate Classroom, and numerous other affiliate managers and publications for his work in the affiliate industry, his knowledge and passion, and his level of service. In other words, he has what it takes to help us build a world-class affiliate program, with all the tools and services you’ll need to ramp up your success with us.
At the risk of sounding like a promo, here is what some of Matt’s former affiliates and other industry leaders have said about him. I just want you to know the level of service you will now be able to expect…
Anik Singal of Affiliate Classroom and one of Matt’s affiliates at HometownQuotes said when awarding him an ACCertified award, “Matt proactively communicates with his affiliates. His constant and active management makes him one of the best affiliate managers I have ever worked with.”
Todd Chapple, the CRO of InsureMe, recently said that Matt is “a visionary in the development of Affiliate Marketing programs with unique contributions to the art of affiliate relationship development.”
Alston Balkcom, another of Matt’s affiliates at HometownQuotes said, “Matt helped me make my affiliate business more profitable. My affiliate income was a minor part of my income. Now it is my primary income stream. I needed a lot of hand-holding in the beginning. Matt and his staff helped me tremendously.”
Geno Prussakov, one of the leading Affiliate Managers in the world, says that “Matt is a top notch Affiliate Manager. He is responsive, relationship-oriented, passionate, and diligent.”
I hope that you will join me in welcoming Matt to our team and I look forward to having him help you in the near future.
Best Regards and Much Success,
Gabriel Smith
CEO, Legacy Learning Systems
