Shawn Collins and Missy Ward have truly put together a winner each and every time and it only gets better. If you have not already, make sure to subscribe to it and get it in the mail. A New Lease on Life - Learn and Master Guitar Testimonial
Posted by Matt McWilliams in Fun Stuff, Legacy News on September 26th, 2009
I truly do love getting these emails.? Here is a recent story from a customer named Wes that was sent to Steve Krenz, the instructor for Learn and Master Guitar.
As our affiliates, you are responsible for impacting the lives of people like this.? Thanks for doing such important work!
I had to retire early because of my health.? I admit a period of boredom and self-pity.? I was motivated by my old band mates to pick up my guitar after 40 years.? About the same time some higher power, call it what you will, directed me to your L&MG course… I had exhaustively searched for a good self-taught course.? I can never remember being so excited about such a challenge.? My friends, kids (they call me their sixties burn-out, LOL) and even my doctor say I haven’t been the same emotionally and physically.? Without sounding overly dramatic, you have literally given me my life back.? My 40 year old goals of being a rock/blues star have been replaced by a more demanding one:? to be the best I possible can be.? How cool is that??
Thank you for my new lease on life.
-Wes
Have a great rest of the weekend!

New to Twitter? Here are some Tips
Posted by Matt McWilliams in Viral Marketing/Social Media on September 24th, 2009
Are you new to twitter or just wondering how to actually use it to make money?? I am pretty sure a lot of people wonder exactly how to utilize the 140-character social media sensation for profit, right?
It’s easy to get started on Twitter. Signing up is simple. It’s easy to post. It’s even pretty easy to get people to SEE your tweets, but actually getting them to read, click, and buy is the hard part.
Affiliate Classroom does a great job of Tweeting and is profitable at it.? They recently posted 11 Tips for Twitter Success and I think they have done a great job of putting together a list for Twitter marketing.
There is no overnight path to success on Twitter, just as there is no quick way to success in any method of affiliate marketing, but these tips should help.? Their tips summarized are:
- Tweet twice a day with at least a few hours between posts. If you need to schedule Tweets use HootSuite or a similar site. You can use HootSuite to shorten and track the links as well.
- Provide value. One link to your site and one link somewhere else. Be entertaining (this means being funny, compelling, and/or newsworthy). Do your research to find topics of relevance to your niche.
- Link to your own blog.
- Watch others and ReTweet (RT).? Share what others are saying.
- Ask questions. Ask other’s opinions. Nothing gets people involved better than asking a question.
Facebook Ads for Newbies
Posted by Matt McWilliams in Pay Per Click (PPC), Viral Marketing/Social Media on September 23rd, 2009
I have said it many times (here and here at least) that Facebook is a great place to market our stuff.? It’s a great place to market in general.
But there are some nuances to marketing on the networking site.
All Facebook recently posted an article entitled “The 4 Types of Branded Facebook Campaigns” that is a great introduction and primer on Facebook advertising.? These are examples of how Facebook is truly more unique any form of PPC out there today.
I definitely recommend read this article to learn a little more and get some good ideas.
Among the types of campaigns addressed are: Engagement Ads (Polls, Videos, Branded Gift Ads, Event Engagement ads, Fan Pages), News Feed Advertisements, Facebook Pages, and Facebook Applications.
Affiliate Marketing Making You Lonely?
Posted by Matt McWilliams in Affiliate Tools, Fun Stuff on September 22nd, 2009
Affiliate Classroom posted recently about avoiding the loneliness of the affiliate marketer, and it reminded me of exactly how lonely it can be to be an affiliate marketer, often working long hours in the confines of your home, rarely interacting with anyone.? It can drive a man insane!
I suggest giving their article a read here.
There are a lot of ways to interact with other affiliates and people in general while working.
First, the affiliate marketing forums.? Forums are a great place to share ideas, successes, struggles, and have fun.? Odds are, there aren’t a whole lot of affiliate marketers in your neighborhood, but the forums allow you to communicate with affiliates across the world.
I recommend a few forums, although, there are more out there.
ABestWeb and AffiliateTrust - We have our own forums on each here: ABestWeb - AffiliateTrust.? Also, the 5-Star Affiliate Forum is a good one too.? Linda there is awesome.
Secondly, you can attend various conferences and meetings.? Often, there are meetings in various locations where affiliates get together and meet to discuss issues. Look for one in your area.
Affiliate Summit is the oldest, most well-known, and in my opinion, best affiliate conference.? I have been to two and look forward to many others.? It is a great way to meet and learn from other affiliates and merchants.
Other good conferences that I can vouch for include ad:tech and pubcon.? A great list of conferences can be found here.? There are literally hundreds, covering every conceivable topic.
The next? idea is fairly simple.? You can do it today.? You can go outside and meet people outside of your work.? Take a break and just enjoy time with someone else.? Call a friend and go to lunch with him or her.? Do something to get out at least once a week.
Lastly is an idea I got from Logan Thompson.? He did not invent it, but I never thought of it until I heard it from him.? He rented an office near his house. It is a house that was converted into space for very small businesses.? There are about 6-7 other 1-2 person shops in his office space.
You can read about his office here on his blog (I highly recommend checking his blog out regularly).
So, there you have it.? If affiliate marketing is dragging you down, find some ways to be social!

Commentary: Play in the Rain
Posted by Matt McWilliams in Fun Stuff on September 18th, 2009
It’s been raining a lot here in Nashville lately.? It’s a veritable slush fest most days and at times it is a little frustrating when I am wet and freezing at my desk.
Over Memorial Day weekend, my wife and I visited my family in North Carolina and had the opportunity to attend a family cookout and play with my nieces who are 7,7, and 13.? It started raining shortly after we ate and normally I would have run inside to comfort.
But I suddenly remembered a message from my pastor from only a few weeks earlier (yes Jamie, I do listen).? He told of a story of he and some other guys who traveled to Haiti and found themselves in a downpour one day.? Long story short is that they had a blast and one of the guys was truly changed by the event.? He could not remember the last time he played in the rain.? Imagine a group of middle aged men playing in the rain!
He apparently told his kids that no longer will he make them come in when it starts raining.? Now, instead of “it’s raining, get inside,” he says “it’s raining, let’s go outside.”
Well, back to my time in North Carolina, I pondered these words as it drizzled lightly and told Tara.? She and I decided to stay outside.
As the afternoon continued, the rain got harder and soon all of us were soaked.? All of the adults stayed inside except her and I.? Every single child that was there stayed outside.? Hours passed and we just kept on playing with them.? It was a time that I almost forgot until a phone call two weeks ago.
My mom said that my nieces still talk about that day.? They still remembered it long after I had totally forgotten.? It meant the world to them.
So, next time it rains, and you are able, take a moment to play.? You will not only have a great time, but you just might make a memory that lasts forever for someone else.
